Hollywood has never been shy about adapting successful books into blockbuster movies, but with the rise of streaming services, the demand for these adaptations has also increased. The past few years have seen plenty of novels get turned into hit movies or television shows, and this trend is set to continue in 2024. Some adaptations are just around the corner, while others may or may not make the cut. For readers who are also movie buffs, here are the books that are becoming movies or television shows in 2024. 

The Tiger’s Apprentice

The Tiger’s Apprentice is the first book in the middle-grade fantasy adventure series of the same name by Laurence Yet. The story sees a young boy named Tom Lee meet a talking tiger named Mr. Hu and discover that he has magical powers. With these powers comes a great responsibility that sees Tom joining up with Mr. Hu and a ragtag band of other creatures whose mission is to keep an ancient talisman away from an evil enemy. The Tiger’s Apprentice is set to release on Paramount+ as an animated fantasy film in February of 2024.

It is the story of five office colleagues who reluctantly pick up their backpacks and go on a hike through rugged landscapes in the name of team building. Unfortunately, only four women make it out to the other side of the muddy track as one of them, Alice Russell, goes missing. Federal Police Agent Aaron Folk takes an interest in the whereabouts of Alice as she is a whistleblower in his latest case. Unfortunately, it seems that Alice knew a few too secrets about the company she worked for and her co-workers. The first book in the series, The Dry, received a movie adaptation in 2020, starring Eric Bana in the role of Aaron Falk. The sequel, Force of Nature: The Dry 2, will be released in February of 2024, with Eric Bana reprising his role.

Dreamworks animation is released a film based on the book on Netflix in February, 2024 with Jacob Tremblay voicing Orion and Paul Walter Hauser voicing the dark.

The Three-Body Problem is a science fiction novel by Cixin Liu about a secret military project to send signals into space. The goal is to establish contact with aliens, but when an alien civilization receives the signal, they plan on following it to invade Earth. When the people of Earth find out about this, they split into different factions, with some planning to fight against the invasion while others plan on helping the aliens take over the world. The book already received a Chinese television adaption in 2023, but will also receive a new Netflix series in March of 2024.
