Reads rather like an old newspaper story or one of those Michael Aspel murder mystery historical case study programmes. Not bad for all that, but not especially exciting either.
Interesting, thought-provoking & depressing in equal amounts. I wouldn't say it was brilliantly written though and if such a scenario ever arises in the future, I imagine it would be dealt with quite differently. ie not entirely voluntarily, so the main premise has rather a big drawback.
Surprisingly amusing and especially applicable to today's living, Goat-Feathers shows how a man, an author, can be waylaid from obtaining his deserved success by those million and one every day concentration-breaking little wastes of time we all get annoyed by. What Butler would've made of Facebook, the internet, mobile phones, spam email and a zillion channels of television would've been fun to read. Recommended.
A very short, short story which would be rather unremarkable were it not for the author's renown. Churchill was known to suffer from bouts of depression and this story reflects that. Well-written but miserable.
