Very good SF novella with some interesting plot elements including restoration to life for execution victims, mental enhancement, and humankind's first starship.
A mysterious vigilante - "Jack" - disrupts the schemes of a crime boss and his associates. After a somewhat silly first appearance, the character of Jack develops nicely and becomes darker and more threatening. There are two romantic interests that mesh well with the plot and do not overwhelm or distract from the main story. Plenty of action and suspense, this is a very good crime / mystery read.
No super-human feats of deduction to be found here, the solution is pursued with persistence, common sense, and aided with a little luck. I like the Fletcher mysteries I have read and enjoyed this one very much.
This is not crime or detective pulp, but rather a fictional study of exploitation and moral bankruptcy. An episode in the life of Russell Haxby, auto salesman. The con jobs he perpetrates in business pale in comparison to his personal schemes. The characters are strongly written and invoke feeling but the plot does not measure up.
Pure pulp, raw and violent, starring private investigator Jacob Blake. The characters and action are extreme, you might flinch but you won't be bored. Give this one a try if you are a fan of the pulp genre.
Annoying and overly melodramatic writing style coupled with a silly plot. A few good moments but not enough to sustain my interest. Apparently some people enjoyed it so decide for yourself.
Crime / suspense - I enjoy this genre and based on earlier reviews I expected to enjoy this book. So why didn't I? Probably because I found portions of the book just too tedious to overcome. I've been busy lately and when I find time to read I want something that grabs my attention quickly - this isn't it. I'll probably give this one a re-read when I have more time.
The author recalls his past life in Atlantis and warns that all of humankind's problems are due to degeneracy caused by impure radiation from the aging sun. I would not waste any time on this one unless you are looking for some extremely bizarre reading.
